The human face fascinates me and started me on my journey. I do believe eyes are the window to the soul. The first portrait that I drew was the portrait of my great grandmother in her Dutch traditional costume with a twinkle in her eyes. In her gaze I saw resilience and a humour that she managed to keep through the hardship of life. Starting with this portrait, my exploration of the human shape began, using different media. Every now and then I draw someone’s beloved pet, which I love to do because of their vulnerability and lack of pretence.
Most of the drawings below are studies or gifts to friends and family.
